Twin Infants Seriously Injured After Fox Attack
Urban foxes are considered pests in UK and are controlled
Nine-month-olds Isabella and Lola Koupparis are in serious but stable condition after they were mauled at their east London home by a fox.
The toddlers were asleep in their bedroom when the attack took place on Saturday night at around 10 pm. Their parents, Nick and Pauline Koupparis, then immediately called emergency services and informed the police.
The fox is understood to have entered the home through a window or a door left open due to a warm evening.
"Police were called at 10pm on Saturday night... following reports of a fox attack," a a spokesman for Scotland Yard told reporters.
"Officers and paramedics attended and found two nine-month-old baby girls with injuries."
"Both were taken to hospital. Their conditions were today described as serious but stable."
Police do not suspect any foul play in the attack.
Both girls suffered injured arms and one of them is also understood to have facial injuries.
Unprovoked fox attacks are very rare in the United Kingdom, where foxes have become well established in many urban areas.
In 2003, four-year-old Jessica Brown was attacked in her garden and bitten on the arm. An elderly man was also attacked in Edinburgh in August 2004.
