That’s Right. World’s smallest island nation of Nauru consumes the most meat per capita. And no, these Pacific islanders don’t consume copious amounts of exotic tropical fish. Most of their meat is consumed in the form of unhealthy, processed meat, which is usually shipped in from Australia. This total dependency on processed meat has turned these previously muscularly built islanders into some of the world’s fattest. A whopping 78.5% of all adult Naurans are obese.

Rest of the graph predictably has the ranching superpowers Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and USA sitting near the top. Notable exceptions are Brazil – world’s biggest exporter of meat and Russia, world’s biggest importer. Interestingly, Portugal is the most carnivorous country in Europe and traditional pork powerhouses Germany didn’t even make it to the list.

yeah, that is very good ,but i have a little can not understand the theme of this article, can you tell me ? my friend!!

  • This is the real reason why Nauru island is sinking, not due to the rise in sealevel!

  • How big is this country Nauru ??? http://bit.ly/d4JJMI

  • There is no scale, just kilograms. Is that per person per year?

  • Nevermind ... my browser cut off the bottom of the picture the first time ... I looked at it again, and the scale showed up.  My bad.

Processed meats =  bad. Eat fresh food. I am surprised America isn't #1.

  • I am skeptical as to the veracity of this infographic.  Germany, a country well-known for processed meats in every variety (yes, every delicious variety) doesn't place in the top 10?  Having lived there for several years, and observed their meat-eating habits to be just as enthusiastic as America's, I can't believe that this is accurate.  What's more, the US has pretty enthusiastically embraced tofu and other soy based proteins but my experience says Deutschland has not.  Their much smaller Asian population is a large factor in this, I surmise.  Don't believe everything you read.

  • The per capita consumption takes in mind only the standard population of a country, and not the tourists... In some cases this changes the stats dramatically

  • I think it might be more informative to see this normalised according to average bodyweight of population. 100kg of meat is very different depending on whether youre an Asian woman who's barely 40kg or an American dude topping 100kg.

  • Second place??

Damn... we need to kill more cows.

It seems like these countries are all richer countries.
