In the city of Joliet, If youâ€re a little hesitant to pronounce the name, it is to be said as . Be careful when you visit the city of Joliet. Mispronouncing the city name as Jolly-ETTE instead of Joe-lee-ETTE is a misdemeanor and punishable by a $5 fine.

2 – Kids Can Have Liquor with their Parents!

Alcohol does not make you fat. It makes you lean…against tables, chairs, walls, floors and ugly people. Those under 21 can drink legally, but they must be accompanied by their parents or enrolled in a culinary program to do so. Hey parents of teenagers! That bottle of Vodka in your liquor cabinet is really water!

3 – Get Your City Sticker Wrong & You Are in Trouble!

Hereâ€s a cool idea: get a bumper sticker on your car that says “Honk if you think Iâ€m super cool!” Then, wait at green lights until you feel good about yourself. Hey but donâ€t pay heed to this suggestion if you are in Illinois! Citizens can be hit with a $120 ticket for having an improperly displayed and outdated city sticker on their car.

4 – Did You Ever Deal in Slavery?

Only 1.6% of US citizens owned slaves in 1860 when slavery was at its peak. Yet that small 1.6% of rich plantation owners were able to convince the majority of southerners to fight a civil war for a cause that only reduced the value of their own labor and pay. Does that sound familiar to you? Anyways, according to this law, all businesses entering contracts with the city must sift through their records and report any business they had dealing with slaves during the era of slavery.

5 – No Pants Below the Hips!

This one is another one of those plain stupid and dumb laws in Illinois. It is illegal to wear sagging pants in Collinsville that fall three or more inches below the hips. You wear one and youâ€ll be slapped $100 fine. Repeat it and get fined for $300! Youngsters you either pull up your sagging pants or wear the underpants, made out of jeans!
