10 Foods That Nourish Skin

Every time, a new skin care product is advertised, we find people, irrespective of age and gender, running after them at supermarkets. Compared to that, the shopping trolleys along with those expensive skin care products are full of unhealthy foods that promise pale, dull and damaged skin. Your skin will only be healthy and shiny if so is your inner health which it has to reflect. Following is a list of some of the very basic, easy to find, essential nutrients that will leave your skin glowing:

1. Green Tea

Sipping this refreshing drink as it will not only revitalize your energy or secure your heart but will also work wonders for your skin. Experts reveal that green tea contains large amounts of antioxidants called catechins. Combined with flavonoids, these antioxidants fight against ageing and stop wrinkles. It also helps prevent blemishes and improves blood flow resulting in glowing skin. Research shows that green tea also averts skin cancer.

2. Whole Grains

Our foods today are rich with white rice, cookies, white bread, processed flour and bakery items prepared from it. This results in disturbed insulin levels, aging and wrinkling. Rather than these, include whole wheat in your diet. It may be whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread, or brown rice. This will provide the necessary level of antioxidants and Vitamin B to your body. Along with that, whole wheat contains fiber which is easy to digest and prevents from problems such as constipation. As it is digestible, removal of toxins from the body is eased thus preventing acne and pimples.

3. Water

The thousands you spend on moisturizers would have no effect if you are not moisturized from inside. Regular and adequate amounts of water are essential to keep moisture intact in your skin. It also releases toxins from blood and prevents problems such as constipation and organ infections. Judge your body’s required amounts by your skin and diet type as well as external environment you live in. Moisture will prevent dryness, wrinkles and freckles, purified blood will result in the prevention of whiteheads, blackheads and pimples whereas, healthy and problem free stomach will give your skin radiance and glow. Increase your intake of Oranges, Tangerines, Lemon, Grapefruits, Kiwi or Strawberries. Vitamin C produces collagen which maintains the proper binding of your skin cells. Lack of vitamin C results in flaky skin and wrinkles. You can also get Vitamin C in large amounts from fresh juices. Almonds are rich in Vitamin E whereas other nuts such as Pecans, Walnuts and Pistachios are a rich source of Vitamin B Complex and Beta-carotene. You can add them in your cereal, porridge or even in your salads to add the taste along with providing your skin with nutrients and minerals.

It may not be the food you gulp down into your stomach but is essential for your skin’s appetite. It doesn’t mean however, that you don’t have to protect yourself from the direct heat but a little absorption of sunlight at certain times will have soothing effects for your skin. The necessary Vitamin D requirement of your body may be fulfilled by feeding the skin with sunlight of early mornings or late afternoons. All the sources will not only strengthen your bones but give you clearer skin. Milk contains proteins and Vitamin D along with Calcium whereas cheese has healthy quantities of Selenium. All these help retain moisture of the skin and fight against skin problems. Yoghurt also contains healthy bacteria that help in digestion process and thus body is easily free of waste resulting in fresh skin.

8. Green Vegetables

Green vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, cabbage, salad leaves, celery and cucumber are known for their health benefits. Vitamins such as Vitamin A, B, C, E, Iron, Antioxidants, Omega Three Fatty Acids and many other nutrients are loaded in them. It prevents wrinkles and dryness by controlling the functioning of oil secreting glands and maintaining skin’s elasticity.
